Chinese Chicken & Broccoli

Skip the Chinese takeout tonight and cook your own Chinese Chicken & Broccoli at home! You can cook this super yummy recipe in just thirty minutes.

This Chinese Chicken & Broccoli recipe is served with jasmine rice and steamed broccoli. I recommend starting the rice when the chicken is marinating, since rice takes about twenty minutes to cook. I use a steamer basket in a pot on the stove to steam the broccoli. To steam broccoli, place about 1″ of water in a saucepan with steamer basket and bring to a heavy boil. Add broccoli florets to the steamer basket, cover with a lid, and cook for about 7 minutes or until cooked through. Serve this with the cooked jasmine rice with this delicious dinner!

YUMMY broccoli florets!

For the actual chicken recipe, it is fairly easy! Not too many ingredients are needed, yet it delivers a bold, yummy taste thats way better than takeout! To begin, cut 1 pound of chicken breast into 1″ cubes. In a medium sized bowl, marinate with 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 tablespoon corn starch, 1 teaspoon table salt, 1 teaspoon pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon sugar. Set aside and let marinate for 15 minutes.

When chicken has marinated, grab a nonstick skillet (must be a nonstock skillet or the sauce will stick to other pans) and heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil on medium high heat. When the oil is hot, add 1 clove of minced garlic. Cook this for about 30 seconds or until the garlic is fragrant. Add 1/4 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes (1/8 teaspoon if you like less heat) and cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Now add the chicken and cook for 6-8 minutes until chicken is lightly browned on all sides.

Add 1.5 tablespoons of hoisin sauce to the skillet. Stir constantly for 1 minute (this will be thick).

In a small bowl, create a cornstarch slurry with 1/2 cup of water and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Add cornstarch slurry to the skillet. Stir to combine well. Turn heat to low and cook, uncovered, for 5 minutes until sauce is thick.

That’s it for at home Chinese Chicken & Broccoli! Serve over jasmine rice with the steamed broccoli on the side (or combine it all if that’s what you prefer).

Enjoy!!!
